Travel Reimbursement
Usually, there is a limited budget for travel reimbursement. We would like to ask everybody to leave it to people who really need it.
When you apply for travel reimbursement, please choose the cheapest way and give us a realistic estimation of travel costs. Generally we do not cover more than 70 % of the costs and we do not pay for flights.
To decide how to distribute available money for travel reimbursement, we use following criteria.
- Participants' enthusiasm and contribution to the meeting (For example, in case of Ecotopia, priority is given to participants who contribute to the program by giving a workshop, etc )
- Duration of staying ( Please be aware that in general you can only ask for financial support for the trip when staying for the whole meeting or at least 1 week )
- Geographical and gender diversity ( We try to support people from as many different countries as possible)
- Realistic estimation of travel expenses ( We reimburse participants who agree to use cheapest means of transport, for example bus and 2nd class trains )
Generally we do not reimburse flights because of negative environmental effects of air travel (air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, damage of the ozone layer, etc. for more info see http://www.sightline.org/ http://airportpledge.org.uk )
- It is possible to make an exception and partly reimburse a flight [it would be less then the 70%], as part of that money would be given to a grassroots project, involved in tree planting, forest conservation, etc. (to make an attempt at reducing the negative environmental effects from the flight).
- You can apply for flight reimbursement in following cases:
- travel over land takes more than 3 days
- visa problems
- other reasons (please explain)
Please do not fly jet engine planes! use trains, buses, bikes or walk
